I’ve been thinking about archetypes in relationships a lot lately, mostly because I’ve been witnessing some interesting dynamics play out with friends and clients.  The thing is, dissension between archetypes in a relationship plays out when somebody (or both somebodies) isn’t taking responsibility for their actions.

It’s no secret that times are tough. I just heard that we’re heading toward continued slow times, but no double dip recession. I’m not sure that’s all such reassuring news; I think the average person is still experiencing life as financially austere.

There are many reasons we get into relationships, and the real reason is almost never what we think it is.  Instead, we feel a sexual attraction, we find that we have some things in common with the object of of our attraction, and we end up in a relationship.

I’ve been thinking about the phenomenon of “friends with benefits”.  Young adults are marrying later in life, which should be better for the divorce rate but may not be.  Men and women are shying away from serious emotional commitments, choosing instead to have casual sex with supposedly no strings attached.

There’s a curious phenomenon that happens in the waning days of a marriage.  I’ve talked with several friends and clients who’ve corroborated my observation.  Women who are unhappy in their marriage fall under the delusion that having a baby, or another baby, will save their marriage. My advice:  cross your legs, ladies!
